What is Trauma Sensitive Yoga?

Dr. Bessel van der Kolk is an authority on PTSD and formerly headed The Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts. He has said that "the goal of treatment of PTSD is to help people live in the present without feeling or behaving according to demands belonging to the past." Yoga specifically designed for a trauma survivor's needs can be used as an adjunct to talk therapy -- talk therapy can only go so far because it is “head-centered” rather than “body-centered.”  The ancient yogis knew that Yoga can bring body and mind together. Medical researchers and neuroscientists are catching up to what the ancient yogis knew — that Yoga improves physical well-being and mental health and is a path to personal transformation.

The only Yoga Therapy I offer is for for NPEs also known as MPEs (Misattributed Parentage.)  Don't know what an NPE/MPE is?  It is someone who discovers that the man who raised them is not their biological father. I am an NPE and you can read more about me here.

Not only am I an NPE but I learned I am a different ethnicity than what I believed I was growing up.  Receiving a DNA surprise IS DNA trauma. When I learned I was NPE in 2014 I experienced deep depression for 5 years.  The two things that saved me were my gardens and my Buddhism.  Buddhism and Yoga philosophy teach about attachment and craving, i.e., that our suffering is caused by our craving things to be different from what reality is.  Using all my training in Yoga philosophy and Buddhism, I pulled myself back into the light.

There are more NPEs in the world than people can ever imagine.  It is estimated that 15% of those taking DNA tests like Ancestry and 23andMe for “fun” will find out they are NPEs.  Their lives are changed forever, as mine was. NPEs can suffer extreme depression and suicidal ideation. I WILL BE THERE FOR OTHER NPEs BECAUSE NO ONE WAS THERE FOR ME.

If you know of anyone who is the result of a Non-Paternity Event (NPE) such as: an extramarital affair or other sexual encounter such as rape or assault; assisted reproduction (sperm donor, embryo donation, or surrogacy); adoption as in newborn placement, orphan, foster care, Late Discovery Adoptees (LDA), or stepchild; or any other event that resulted in a change in or understanding of their genealogy and/ethnicity and they are struggling, send them to me.

With my extensive training in Yoga, Yoga Philosophy, Buddhism, and Trauma Sensitive Yoga, I can help.
